Why Do I Have a Black Triangle Between My Teeth?

Smile with gap between gums

The triangles we keep mentioning are tiny but noticeable spaces between the teeth that reveal the darkness of the mouth. These can affect the appearance of the smile, plus they can also cause bubbles to form or excess air to pass while you talk. These can develop for a number of reasons:

  • Gum recession
  • The result of an injury to the gums/teeth
  • Excessive tooth picking, flossing, or nail picking
  • Badly made or poorly-fitting dental work
  • Malpositioned teeth

How We Can Get Rid of Them

Flawless teeth and gums

While there are multiple treatments that can address this problem, we prefer to use the least invasive one. Rather than altering your gum line or giving you a restoration, we can simply inject a small amount of a dermal filler in the gums near the space so it closes.

This procedure only takes a few minutes and is completely painless. We simply apply a bit of topical anesthetic to the area, inject the dermal filler until the triangle disappears, and that’s it! You’ll see instant results. The area might be a little tender for a day or so afterward, but this should quickly go away on its own. If the triangle was due to gum recession (which is a common symptom of gum disease), we can provide you with a treatment to eliminate that as well.

So, while little black triangles in your smile might be annoying, they don’t have to be permanent! If you’re ready to make them go away once and for all, give The Dental Suite a call today!
